La semana pasada pasé unos días para hacer uso del balneario en Carbis Bay, cerca del pueblo costero de St Ives en Cornualles, un condado en el sudoeste de Inglaterra.

Last week I spent a few days at a spa break in Carbis Bay, near the coastal town of St Ives in Cornwall, a county in the south west of England.

I stayed at Carbis Bay Hotel which overlooks stunning views of Carbis Bay and the clear blue water of the Celtic Sea.  The two-mile coastal path between Carbis Bay and St Ives is a beautiful walk through luscious green vegetation broken up by coastal views.

St Ives es un pueblo costero hermoso con un puerto y varias playas (Porthminster, Porthmeor y Porthgwidden) donde hay un plétora de restaurantes excelentes.

St Ives is a beautiful coastal town with a harbour and a number of beaches (Porthminster, Porthmeor and Porthgwidden) where you can find a plethora of excellent eateries.

Es muy pintoresco también con la línea del horizonte muy baja y tantas hileras de casitas monas.  Aunque en verano el turismo está muy ocupado, todavía hay un cierto tranquilidad y calma en el pueblo, que es un oasis de la vida urbana que llevo.

It’s also very picturesque with a very low skyline line, and rows and rows of cute, little cottages.  Although summer is a busy season for its tourism industry, there is still a certain calmness and tranquility about the town, which is an oasis from the urban life I usually lead.

La serenidad del paisaje es un gran fuente de inspiración para muchos artistas, desde escultores hasta novelistas.  Hay un museo de Barbara Hepworth, el museo del Tate, Virginia Woolf pasó bastante tiempo en St Ives, y hay un montón de galerías y tiendas artesanales que rellenan las calles del pueblo.  Aun se puede ver unos artistas en la playa creando obras usando las piedras que encuentran en la costa.

The serenity of the landscape is also a great source of inspiration for many an artist, from sculptors to novelists.  There is a Barbara Hepworth Museum, the Tate Museum, Virginia Woolf spent time in St Ives, and there are endless little galleries and craft shops which line the streets of the town.  You can even see artists on the beach, creating works of art from the rocks found along the coastline.  

Cornualles está a cinco horas, más o menos, de Londres en tren (cogí el tren de London Paddington hasta St Erth).  Merece viajar por tren para disfrutar la belleza del paisaje y la costa cambiando, si se sienta a la izquierda del tren frente a la dirección de desplazamiento  hacia Cornualles.  Después de llegar en Cornualles, recomiendo alquilar un coche para explorar la gloria de este condado.

Cornwall is about five hours away from London by train (I took the train from London Paddington to St Erth).  It is worth travelling by train so that you can take in the beauty of the changing landscape and coastline, if you sit on the left of the train facing the direction of travel towards Cornwall.  Once in Cornwall, I would recommend hiring a car to explore the county in all its glory.
