Redcliffe Farm – Scarborough, North Yorkshire

¡Feliz Navidad a todos!  Espero que hayáis pasado un día maravilloso con vuestros queridos, mucho comida festiva rica y regalitos de Papá Noel.

Merry Christmas everybody!  I hope you’ve all had a wonderful day with loved ones, lots of delicious festive food and goodies from Santa.

Al principio de esta semana, fuimos a Redcliffe Farm, que se halla en las afueras de Scarborough de camino a otra ciudad en la costa que se llama Filey.  Nuestra tarde en Redcliffe Farm consistió en comer e ir de compras por la comida y los regalos navideños – ¡pues fue una tarde bastante provechosa!

Earlier this week we went to Redcliffe Farm, which is situated on the outskirts of Scarborough and on the way to another seaside town called Filey.   Our trip to Redcliffe Farm consisted of eating, food shopping and Christmas shopping – so quite a productive afternoon! 

Redcliffe Farm Shop Café

En el Redcliffe Farm Shop Café se puede pedir comida como bocadillos, tartas, tés, cafés que suelen vender en los salones de té buenos en Inglaterra.  Pero el café de Redcliffe Farm se distingue por la comida que se produce alli mismo y los ingredientes tienen que viajar muy poco distancia, puesto que la mayoría está producido por la granja misma.  Los huevos, el carne de res y las verduras son unos ejemplos de los ingredientes frescos y cultivados alli mismo y usados para cocinar unas comidas deliciosas.  De hecho Redcliffe Farm está autorizada a abastecer el Golden Turkey – una marca de la calidad de los pavos de granja de la espectacular Redcliffe Farm.

At the Redcliffe Farm Shop Café you can order the usual sandwiches, cakes, teas and coffees you would find at most good British tearooms.  But the difference here is that most of the food is made on site and the produce used has a very low carbon footprint, given that most of it is produced by Redcliffe Farm itself!  The eggs, beef and vegetables, are just some examples of the fresh produce cultivated on site and used to cook some delicious meals.  In fact, Redcliffe Farm has even been certified as an authorised stockist of the Golden Turkey – a mark of the quality of the free-range turkeys reared at this outstanding farm.

De todas maneras, esta vez mi padre pidió una de las especialidades del día del café – carnitas de cerdo en un bollo.  Y mi madre y yo decidímos en pedir la hamburguesa de ternera riquísima, en un bollo, con chutney casero, ensalada fresca y ensalada de col, y una ración generosa de las mejores patatas fritas que he comido … porque se las espolvorean con un toque de romero.

On this occasion, however, my father ordered one of the café’s specials of the day – pulled pork in a bread bun.  Meanwhile my mum and I decided to order the café’s delicious homemade steak burger, which is wrapped in a bread bun with homemade chutney, accompanied with a yummy salad and coleslaw, and a generous portion of some of the most tastiest chips I’ve ever had… because they’re topped with a little sprinkle of rosemary. 

En general las hamburguesas están muy a la moda en el Reino Unido y en el mundo, y varios restaurantes que se especializan en las hamburguesas son muy ubicuos.  Pero puesto que el orígen del carne de res está tan bien conseguido (¡¿qué puede ser major que saludar a las vacas al entrar en la granja, unos minutos antes de disfrutar de una hamburguesa de la granja?!) y está tan bien cocinado en la granja, las hamburguesas de Redcliffe Farm superan la calidad y el sabor de hamburguesas que se venden en otros restaurantes pasajeros.  Con cada bocado jugoso de las hamburguesas de ternera, ¡de verdad se puede degustar que las vacas de esta granja estaban criadas con mucha alegría! Y el chutney casero va muy bien con las hamburguesas  también – hay la cantidad perfecta de pasas sultanas, especies y pepinillos para complementar los sabores rezumando de la hamburguesa.

Burgers have become quite à la mode both in the UK and across the globe, with various burger bars becoming a ubiquitous sight.  But because the beef is so well-sourced (you can’t beat greeting the cows upon entering the farm, minutes before tucking into a steak burger!) and so well-cooked on site at Redcliffe Farm, the steak burgers here exceed the quality and taste of the burgers found at most faddish burger joints.  With each succulent bite of the steak burgers, you really can taste that the cows were happily reared here!  The homemade chutney beautifully accompanies the burgers as well – there’s just the right amount of sultanas, spices and gherkins to complement the flavours oozing from the burger.

Redcliffe Farm Shop

Después de una comida abundante, pero desafortunadamente sin suficiente capacidad por un postre esta vez, fuimos a comprar los últimos ingredientes que necesitamos para la cena de Navidad, incluso los huevos de Brown Eggs, producidos en Redcliffe Farm y vendidos en la tienda de la granja.  Si sois golosos, a lo mejor os interesan las galletas navideñas producidas por la granja, pero hay varios otros alimentos que se puede comprar de la tienda, por ejemplo las cervezas locales, salchichas, pasteles caseros, ensaladas caseras, verduras locales, etc. …

After quite a hearty lunch, unfortunately without enough capacity for a scrumptious dessert on this occasion, we went on to stock up on the last of the ingredients we needed for Christmas lunch, including eggs from Brown Eggs, farmed at Redcliffe Farm and sold at the farm’s shop.  For those with a sweet tooth the farm shop also produced some delicious-looking Christmas biscuits, but there are various other locally sourced fare you can buy at the shop, such as local beers, sausages, homemade pies, homemade salads, homemade cakes, locally-grown vegetables, etc. …

Carbis Arts & Crafts Shop

Antes de volver a casa, pasamos por la tienda artesanal ubicada en Redcliffe Farm también – Carbis Arts & Crafts, gestionada por los esposos, Steve and Trish Meadowcroft.

Before heading home, we popped into the crafts and gift shop which can be found at Redcliffe Farm as well – Carbis Arts & Crafts, run by husband-and-wife team, Steve and Trish Meadowcroft. 

Por cierto había llegado los festivos navideños al entrar en esta tienda, puesto que había un montón de regalitos artesanales de Navidad – un verdadero placer a ver sin tener que pagar demasiado.  En particular, nos han encantado las tapas de punto de forma de budines de Navidad para cubrir las bolas de chocolate con sabor de naranja de la marca de Terry’s – perfectas para los calcetines navideños o para ser amigo invisible.

There was no mistaking that Christmas had arrived when we entered the shop, as there were plenty of delightful festive arts and crafts on display – a real joy to the eye and not a great dent to the wallet!  In particular, we really took to the little hand-knitted Christmas puddings in which were hidden balls of Terry’s Chocolate Orange – perfect for stocking-fillers or Secret Santa.

En muy poco tiempo nos llamó la atención un cuadro, exhibido abajo… Es de vidrio fundido hecho por otra mujer de Yorshire, Debbie March – ‘Little Tree-Butterflies‘.  Hace bastante tiempo que mis padres querían ayudarme adornar unos toques finales a mi nuevo piso, entonces el cuadro fue perfecto para solucionar su búsqueda de refinar un poco mi piso y de los últimos regalitos de Navidad.  Entonces estoy muy orgullosa de presentaros unos de los regalos navideños maravillosos de mis padres:

Our eyes soon fell on a certain picture, featured below…  It’s a handmade, fused glass picture made by fellow-Yorkshire woman, Debbie March – ‘Little Tree-Butterflies‘.  My parents had been quite keen to help me add a few finishing touches to my new flat, so this was the perfect answer to their quest to both add a bit of colour to my flat and finish their Christmas shopping.  So I’m very proud to present one of the wonderful Christmas presents received from my parents:

Pero había otra sorpresa de mis padres para mí – una tarjeta artesanal con una imagen de un budín de Navidad hecha con fieltro, que mis padres compraron de Carbis Arts & Crafts.

But there was one other surprise my parents had in store (or actually out of the store to be more precise!) for me – a cute, little, handmade card with a picture of a Christmas pudding made out of felt, bought from Carbis Arts & Crafts.
