Durante nuestra gira golosa de Nottingham hace unos meses, mi amiga, Aoife, organizó una gira para nosotras para ver los aspectos más culturales de la ciudad, empezando con Nottingham Contemporary.

In amongst our gluttonous tour of Nottingham a few months ago, my friend, Aoife, had organised for us to take in some other cultural aspects of the city, starting with Nottingham Contemporary.

Situado cerca del mercado historico de encaje en Nottingham, la fachada de la galeria es un reconocimiento a la antigua industria de encaje de la ciudad que fue el lider mundial.

Based near Nottingham’s historic Lace Market, the facade of the art gallery is a nod to the city’s former world-leading lace industry.

Cuando fuimos de visita a la galeria, hubo una exposición de las obras de Simon Starling quien estudió en Nottingham Trent University.  Sus obras aludiaron a las distintas épocas de fabricación, desde el principio de la revolución industrial en Gran Bretaña hasta el poder de China hoy en día.

At the time of our visit, they were exhibiting the latest works of Simon Starling who studied at Nottingham Trent University.  His works on display alluded to different eras of manufacturing, from the dawn of the Industrial Revolution to China’s dominance today.

Cerca del piso de Aoife hay una estatua mona de alguien bastante bien conocido de la ciudad – Robin Hood.  Sin embargo, como dijo Aoife, es una lástima que no se ve mucho de su leyenda por la ciudad… De todas maneras, ¡es obligatorio que todos los visitantes tomen una foto con el legendario Robin Hood!

Not far from Aoife’s flat is a cute statue of someone quite well-known from the city – Robin Hood.  However, as Aoife said, it is a shame that not more of his legacy is found throughout the city…  Nevertheless, it’s a must for all visitors to have their pic taken with the legendary Robin Hood!

Terminamos una de nuestras noches en el Nottingham Playhouse, donde pedimos un cóctel rico de espreso martini con menta, antes de ver una comedia divertidísima que se llama Noises Off.  Fue una comedia típica británica, llena de ironía y lo bufonesco.  ¡Por qué hace falta las producciones del West End o de Broadway cuando hay las producciones tan estupendas en el resto de Gran Bretaña!

We then ended one of our evenings at Nottingham Playhouse, where we had a yummy, minty espresso martini before watching a hilarious comedy called Noises Off.  It was a typical British comedy, full of dry humour and slapstick.  Who needs the West End or Broadway when you’ve got such great productions being shown around the UK!
